MP4 allows you to play video files. Basically an MP3-player only plays music while an MP4-player can also play videos. MP4 is used to compress the video-file with a so-called H.264-codec. For example people use DivX and Xvid codec’s to compress the MP4 file to a .avi or .mov extension.
