CD Freaks presents: Lite-On SHW-16H5S DVD Burner Review

We are pleased to announce the review of the Lite-On SHV-16H5s, which Lite-On IT B.V. was kind enough to send us for review.  The features of this DVD burner features are pretty much identical to that of the Lite-On SHW-1635S, but with the addition of LightScribe label writing technology.   LightScribe works by using the drive's laser to burn the label onto the label side of LightScribe compatible media.  The drive's software bundle consists of the Nero Express 6.6 suite and Power DVD 5.0.

Like the Lite-On SHV-1635s, this burner features 16x DVD±R, 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD+R DL and 4x DVD-R DL maximum burning performance.  It also supports the burning of CD-R's at up to 48x and CD-RW's at up to 24x.  However, despite similar features, we still put the drive through at least the same in-depth review process as other DVD burners, which covers reading, writing and disc quality tests over a very wide range of media, not to mention many advanced tests also.  Our European reviewer Dee-27 has worked on this review, which has been published in our review section.

As with our other reviewers, this review covers in-depth read and write tests over a wide range of media, consisting of DVD ± writable, rewritable and dual/double layer media.  After each write test, a Disc Quality test is performed to produce a PI/PIF performance graph to show the drive's performance with each disc.  Finally, as this drive is a LightScribe model, the review also covers its performance with LightScribe media.

To find out how this drive performs, including further specifications and details and its LightScribe capabilities, please check out the in-depth review here.  Once you have a look over the review, feel free to comment or ask further questions about the drive or review on this forum thread.
