Is the Xbox 2 sticking with DVD over blue laser?

Wasted Grunt used our news submit to tell us about this article he spotted over at the Inquirer.
Actually, it is
not much other than a rumor.
With hardware that is not ready for production,
things can change and arguments can ensue. The Inquirer has basically said that
they have some shaky information that is indicating the XBox is sticking to a
well received and ...much cheaper solution, the venerable DVD. There can be
little doubt that this has been discussed. But, if a decision has been made is anyones guess at this point.

While Sony are putting their weight behind Blu-Ray, it seems that Microsoft might just stick with good ol"-fashioned DVD in a bid to keep the costs of the system and its games down. Not even the HD variety, mind, which Microsoft has already put its backing behind.

While we find it hard to believe that
Microsoft wouldn"t support next generation formats at all, especially
given its goal of becoming more than just a console, we wonder if there
will be numerous add-ins or bolt-ons to support one or even both of the
new disc formats.

Well, if the new blue laser format camps each forge ahead
each on their own, with no clear leader to determine the direction of the high
capacity next gen solution, Microsoft may just say to heck with it, rather than
to guess wrong and upset customers if one format is eventually dumped in favor
of the other.
