MySpace to get independent music downloads

Independent music is to be sold on sites including MySpace due to a deal between Merlin and Snocap.

This will allow bands and artists to sell their music through their own MySpace pages and other similar sites. As you would expect, the downloads are in mp3 format with no DRM so people are free to play them on whatever device suits them.

Snocap, which was founded by the creator of Napster, Sean Fanning will use its own MyStore initiative to allow music to be downloaded from websites. MySpace and MyStore will join forces in the near future. No news on pricing yet.

I can see this being widely popular especially with younger people. I think any news regarding DRM free music has to be good. Feel free to discuss this in the forum.
