Selling Novell Software on auction sites could be risky, a $600,000 fine is more then some people earn their whole life...

Novell Inc. has been awarded more than $600,000 in its case against a California man accused of pirating the Utah company's software.

Novell contended that Chris Bonner of Davis, Calif., illegally sold more than 40 unlicensed copies of Novell's NetWare software on the Internet auction site eBay.

Bonner allegedly used several aliases to conduct the Web auctions.

Novell claims that before it sued Bonner in September 1999 in U.S. District Court, Bonner promised to stop selling the software. But the company said Bonner kept at it and had opened nearly 20 more auctions.
