Philips starts DVD+R and DVD+RW licensing


Philips reports that it has started with the licensing program for the DVD+R and DVD+RW related products. Now other companies besides Sony, HP and Philips are able to produce products using the DVD+ technology.

The licensing is for both media and hardware products. There is also information on DVD+ software products and they will basically receive instructions from Philips how to implent it. If the software vendor does not sell its software with a drive it needs to pay 5.000 USD in royalities.



Hardware:

  • An initial payment of USD 10.000 of which USD 5.000 is creditable against royalties.
  • USD 5.00 for each DVD+RW recorder function.
  • USD 6.50 for each DVD+RW/+R recorder function.

    In combination with the DVD Video and DVD-ROM Player License Agreement:

  • A royalty of USD 6.50 for each DVD+RW recorder that also includes DVD playback
    functionality.
  • A royalty of USD 8.00 for each DVD+RW/+R recorder that also includes DVD playback
    functionality.

    Media:

  • An initial payment of USD 10.000 of which USD 5.000 is creditable against royalties.
  • USD 0.10 for each DVD+R disc.
  • USD 0.10 for each DVD+RW disc.
