Sources: Lite-On IT lands order for DVD recorders from Sanyo

People planning on buying a DVD recorder from Sanyo
Electric in the near future will probably be getting a recorder manufactured by
Lite-On IT. According to unnamed sources in the ODD industry Lite-On IT has
landed an OEM order for DVD recorders from Sanyo. Lite-On IT has not
confirmed the news although the company did say that it is confident it
will attain its shipment goal of one million DVD recorders this year. Our thanks

Other local ODD makers thought the report likely to be true since
Lite-On IT has a close business relationship with Sanyo and currently uses
Sanyo's pick-up heads in its drives.

In the Taiwan market, retail
prices of locally made entry-level DVD recorders have dropped from NT$
8,500-8,900 (US$ 251-263) to below NT$ 7,000 (US$ 206) since sales of DVD
recorders have not met expectations, and models with built-in hard disk
drives have been introduced in the past month, according to local retail
channels.
