The Nexus 5 log we obtained reveals the phone contains an 8 Megapixel (MP) camera camera from DigitalOptics with a nice novelty. In the log we found the model number imx179 (thank you Thralas) which proofs the Nexus 5 contains the OV8835 / IMX179 sensor. The camera has a relative aperture of f/2.4, a diagonal of 5.7 mm and a sensor of size 1/3.2".

The MEMS camera module, as it's called, makes it possible to shoot six consecutive images at different focus zones. All images go in one file and afterwards it's possible to view them and refocus by clicking on the part of the image you would like to focus on. This can be compared to the technology developed by Lytro, but the module is smaller and benefits from a 8 MP sensor. Below a video demonstrating how it works.
Below you can find the entire log of the camera. You will notice the options for optical stabilization, face detection modes, video stabilization and all the other usual settings you would expect. The log contains information on both the front and the back camera.
Update 02/10/2013 - 19:00 CEST - We recognize there's uncertainty on the actual camera, we try to add more information from the camera based on the log. Any expert views are much appreciated and much welcomed in our comments. Maybe together, the Android community can solve this mystery! We at Myce are no camera experts by any means.
We are looking for a camera with an imx179 sensor, 1.61 aperture, 3.97 focal length and array size 3280 x 2464.
