The hack took place in March 2013 and LaCie believes that all transactions made between March 27, 2013 and March 10, 2014 have been affected. This means the hackers had access to the data for almost a year. The data includes LaCie website usernames and passwords but also personal information such as names, addresses e-mail address, payment card numbers and card expiration dates. Using this information it's possible for the hackers make to purchases using cards of LaCie customers.

The company recommends users to reset their LaCie password and to check account statements for fraudulent charges on their credit card. If you're a LaCie customer and notice a fraudulent charge then you should contact your credit card company for a chargeback.  Credit card companies guarantee protection against fraud, so getting a chargeback is usually easy.

LaCie has started informing affected customers since the 11th of April, but asks anyone who purchased LaCie products through their website and hasn't received a notice, to read information provided on their website. The company has not disclosed how many people were affected by the hack.
