LG has been wowing us with a variety of different tech products and consumer electronics over the years, ranging from smartphones all the way to internet connected televisions. Lately, however, LG has been hard-pressed to really make a bang in the world of LCD and HD televisions due to a vastly expanding range of competing devices.
We now have news that LG has confirmed that its latest television advancement is slotted to make its debut at CES 2012 in a couple weeks. The new "55-inch OLED HDTV" would be the "world's largest OLED television," proving that LG is attempting to separate itself from the humdrum pack of LCD and LED brands. The company's "OLED process" (which is the process of layering colors over solid white Organic Light Emitting Diodes) is promising to provide viewers with a much clearer and high definition picture as well as a lower error rate.
The OLED process is not a "new" concept and LG has been perfecting this technology for a while now on smaller screens. This is also not the first time we are hearing about the 55-inch OLED model, as LG made statements and promises about the product prior to today. However, we now know that the technology will for sure make an appearance at LG's booth during CES 2012.
Upon first glance at the "screenshots" released, the new model is as sleek and stylish as most of its rivals (Samsung) models. Boasting an ultra slim 5mm thick frame, and encased in what appears to be a chrome finish, the look will surely turn heads. Unfortunately, comments online are already honing in on the stability of such a product, chiefly due to the overall thickness of the frame. Many question whether this model will carry any weight and strength to it, or if it will be as fragile as it appears to be. In my own personal opinion, I feel that a slimmer television actually has a smaller chance of sustaining breakage due to falls and drops because it does not carry the same weight that a traditional LCD does. We also need to consider that this "slim" appearance doesn't mean that the components and casing of the television won't be of a high and durable quality. Thankfully, we won't have to wait long to find out, as CES 2012 kicks off in Las Vegas on January 10th.
