New TomTom app allows you to navigate 75km for free

Navigation software developer TomTom has released an Android app that allows users to navigate 75km a month for free. When users want to navigate longer distances, they need to purchase a yearly subscription of around $20.

The TomTom Go app replaces the current TomTom Navigation app for which users pay for maps. Instead of a one-time fee, TomTom now wants to sell its users subscriptions. A yearly subscription will be $19.99, while a three year subscription will be sold at $44.99.

The app is currently available in the Play Store and is compatible with Android smartphones running at least Android 4.0 with a minimum screen resolution of 800x480 pixels. TomTom Go offers features like offline maps, traffic information and integration with contacts. It's unknown whether TomTom also plans an iOS version of the app.

TomTom released its first Android app several years ago. Besides navigation software, the company also sells maps to companies like Apple.
