An update on Tuesday at the official U.S. PlayStation blog shot down recent rumors that Sony would finally relaunch the PlayStation Network's online storefront and confirmed that certain aspects of the infrastructure would be down for approximately nine hours due to maintenance. Gamers eager to snatch up the free titles promised to them as part of a "Welcome Back" program will have to wait a little bit longer it seems.
Jeff Rubenstein, Sony's Social Media Manager, confirmed that the scheduled maintenance would last from 8AM to 5PM PST and would render password changing, PSN registration and account management functionality unavailable. Though Rubenstein refused to elaborate on exactly what the maintenance was for, he clarified that it wouldn't return the PSN store.
"We're still targeting restoration of all services by the end of this month," he wrote. "Contrary to reports, the Store will not be publishing today."
The store, which closed alongside the entirety of the PSN following a cyber attack and data breach in mid-April, has now been unavailable for over a month.
