Third Ultra HD Blu-ray movie copy appears on torrent sites - this time 'Inferno'

After copies of the Ultra HD Blu-ray version of the 'Smurfs 2' and 'Patriots Day' appeared online, now also a copy of the movie 'Inferno' has made its way onto torrent sites. This Ultra HD Blu-ray copy is again released by a group that calls themselves 'Terminal'.

It's unclear how the pirates were able to make the copy. The copy protection of Ultra HD Blu-ray, AACS 2.0, is considered to be pretty much uncrackable. Part of the copy protection is the requirement of HDCP 2.2 support and the availability of an internet connection when the Ultra HD Blu-ray discs is played for the first time (unless the decryption key is on the disc).

Getting rid of the AACS 2.0 protection would most likely be a job for either DVDFab or Redfox (formerly Slysoft). However DVDFab sent us a press release last year that it won’t make any effort to crack AACS 2.0.

A developer of Redfox on the other hand told us in an interview that he will certainly look into it.

Last year also an alleged Ultra HD Blu-ray movie rip appeared on the web from the movie The Martian. This was later found to be a 4K capture of the movie.

Both 'Patriots Day' and the  'Smurfs 2' were from Lionsgate, 'Inferno' is  the first copy of an Ultra HD Blu-ray movie from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that has been released.
