Introduction

Welcome to Myce’s brief review of the Adata ED600 2.5” USB
3.1 HDD/SSD External Enclosure (hereafter referred to as the Adata ED600).

The Adata ED600 is a ‘rugged’ external enclosure, for 2.5”
HDDs or SSDs, which supports connection to a host computer through a high speed
USB 3.1 interface (backwards compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0).  Please read
on to see what we make of the Adata ED600.

Here is a picture of the ED600, housing the OCZ Vector SSD,
that I used for testing -

As you can see the supplied ‘foam sealer’, in the roof of
the enclosure’s lid, ensures the SSD is held securely once the lid is closed.
You can also see the silicon seal around the inside edge of the enclosure’s
base which protects against the intrusion of water and dust once the lid is
closed. The lid is shut simply by pushing the latch on the lid down over the base.

The ED600 does not have an LED that flashes when it is used
but I guess an LED would be a probable point of failure in its resilience to
water and dust.

Specification

Here is Adata’s specification for the ED600 –

Here is a picture of an empty ED600, where you can see the
SATA connectors and the smooth silicon lining, onto which an SSD/HDD is placed

Performance Testing

I used a USB 3.1 and a USB 3.0 port for testing, on my Z170
based Desktop PC running Windows 10.

USB 3.0 Port -

USB 3.1 Port -

You can see the use of a UASP driver is confirmed.

You can also see that good performance is extracted from the
OCZ Vector using both a USB 3.1 port and a USB 3.0 port.

Conclusions

The Adata ED600 is available for around GBP £15.00, and at
this price it does not carry much of a premium for its rugged nature. It looks
good and it feels well made and robust.

The first external USB 3.1 enclosure that I purchased failed
recently so personally I am easily persuaded by the benefits of a rugged
solution.

I am pleased to award the Adata ED600 our highest rating of
‘Outstanding’ and name it as an "Editor’s Choice".
