As today marks the launch of Microsoft Windows 7, PC manufacturers are announcing and releasing numerous concept PCs and notebooks aimed at gaining consumer interest.
Acer introduced the Aspire 5738DG, an innovative notebook that has a 3D screen, offering an interesting new way for owners to watch movies and play video games. The 15.6-inch screen requires owners to wear a pair of custom 3D glasses for the 3D experience.
The 3D laptop is powered by the Intel Core 2 Duo T6600, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, and an ATI 4570 GPU. It weighs in at six pounds, and has been designed to be a regular-sized notebook. It has an MSRP of $780, which is an excellent price point for such a unique product.
Windows 7 isn't shipping with 3D support, but Acer is providing a custom piece of video software so that 3D technology can be utilized. Using the TriDef3D software, 2D to 3D conversion can properly take place in both video games and computer programs that utilize DirectX 9 or higher.
The future appears to be 3D, with HDTV manufacturers and PC manufacturers showing a high level of interest in the technology. Movie studios also are increasingly excited with 3D, as there are numerous upcoming 3D movies that will be released in theaters across North America.
PC manufacturers will watch Acer's attempt, and it's possible similar notebook and PC launches could occur in 2010.
