Microsoft yesterday released a new Windows 10 build to Windows Insiders which contains a bug that crashes PC games. Windows Insiders in the 'fast ring' received build 11102 yesterday and Microsoft warns that games like The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Tomb Raider, Assassin’s Creed, and Metal Gear Solid V might crash.
The crashes are not limited to these games and are caused by a bug in the Windows graphics stack. This causes the games to crash when switching from windowed mode to fullscreen, upon game resolution change, or upon launch.
Users that use accessibility features of Windows such as Narrator, Magnifier and third-party assistive technologies are also advised to skip this build. The same goes for those who rely on on screen readers.
Skipping build 11102 doesn't mean missing a lot of new functionality. The only noticeable thing Microsoft has added is a new history menu in the Edge browser.
The crashes are in a build from the 'fast ring'. Users that receive builds from this particular ring are warned that they might end up with an unstable Windows 10 version. If they want more stable Windows Insider builds, they can switch to the 'slow ring'.
