Microsoft announces free Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2 mini computer

Microsoft today announced a Windows 10 version for the Raspberry Pi 2. Users of the small computers can use the operating for free when they subscribe to Microsoft's developer program.

Microsoft and Raspberry Pi Foundation have worked together for a half year to make Windows 10 compatible with the Raspberry Pi 2 B+. The organisation announced that new version of the mini computer Monday morning. The system contains 1 GB RAM and a more powerful SoC than the first version of the B+, a BCM 2836 SoC with 4 ARMv7 Cortex A7 cores.myce-raspberry-pi-2

The software giant from Redmond will reveal more details about Windows 10 for Raspberry Pi 2 on a later moment but we do know it will be a free version for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The operating system is specifically customized for the Raspberry Pi.

About a year ago, Microsoft announced the Windows on Devices project for which developers have to register for the Windows Developer Program for IoT o be eligible for free software as soon as it becomes available

Microsoft claims the software will be released later this year.
