Microsoft will no longer release updates for Windows 10 Mobile from the 10th of December this year. From then, users with a device running Windows 10 Mobile will no longer receive security updates or bug fixes. The company announced the change on its website.
“Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 (released October 2017) is the last release of Windows 10 Mobile and Microsoft will end support on December 10, 2019. The end of support date applies to all Windows 10 Mobile products, including Windows 10 Mobile and Windows 10 Mobile Enterprise,” Microsoft writes on a support page on its website.
This means users will no longer receive new security updates, non-security hot fixes, free assisted support options or online technical content updates from Microsoft for free.
The company advises users to switch from Windows 10 Mobile to iOS or Android. After Microsoft ends support, users have till the 10th of March 2020 to backup settings and apps. Some services such as photo storage might continue to be supported a year after Microsoft ends support for Windows 10 Mobile.
In October 2017, Microsoft already announced it would no longer develop new feature and hardware for the mobile operating system. Nevertheless, by December 2019, the company has provided support for Windows 10 Mobile for two additional years.
