Microsoft admits it has mistakenly automatically updated Windows 7 and 8.1 users to Windows 10, even if they never reserved an update, Venturebeat reports. The update was distributed as an optional update that, according to Microsoft, was accidently checked and therefore automatically installed.
Users that didn't uncheck the update, were forced to install to update to Windows 10 which resulted in many complaints. Microsoft has now admitted that it was a mistake and should never have happened.
"In the recent Windows update, this option was checked as default; this was a mistake and we are removing Windows 10 from Windows Update for users that have not reserved a copy of Windows 10", as Microsoft spokesman told Venturebeat.
Previously Microsoft also received complaints about downloading the Windows 10 installation files to computers, even if users were not planning to upgrade.
