While Microsoft has stated that Windows 10 will be the last Windows version and that it will continuously be upgraded, the company has added the operating system to its Windows Lifecycle Fact Sheet. In the sheet the company states a specific data on which support of the OS will end.
The Redmond technology giant plans to continuously upgrade Windows 10 with new features and patches however the Lifecycle Factsheet shows support for the OS will end in 2025.
The Lifecycle sheet shows when support for Microsoft operating systems end. For example support for Windows 7 will end in January 2020 and Windows 8.1 support ends in July 2023. The company now also added Windows 10 the list. The sheet states that Windows 10 support ends on October 14th 2025.
It's surprising that Microsoft has decided to add Windows 10 to the Lifecycle Fact Sheet. The company has always stated that because of its Windows As A Service (WAAS) strategy the operating system would always be kept up to date with mini-upgrades.
The end date is therefore likely mainly for Enterprise Long Time Service Branch (LTSB) that is only available through Volume Licensing contracts. These LTSB versions of Windows 10 are also excluded from the mini-upgrades and only receive important security updates, just like Windows 7 and 8.1.
Just like with these operating systems, also Windows 10 LTBS versions will receive 10 years of support after which enterprises most likely will need a new LTSB deal.
