Newzbin2 continues to fight court-ordered ISP block, promises aid to other blocked sites

Newzbin2 just won't give up. The usenet index site announced last week it had circumvented a court-ordered block that prevented British ISP BT's customers from logging in. Mr. White, the mysterious leader/provocateur behind Newzbin2, has now come forward and stated that he would love to share the equally cloak-and-dagger workaround with other embattled sites.

Speaking to TorrentFreak, White confirmed that if other usenet or torrent sites were interested in his group TeamRDogs' Newzbin Client 1.0.0.127 he wouldn't be against lending a hand. "We could adapt it to help out other websites so if, for example, the MAFIAA start to go after NZBMatrix or torrent sites we'd be happy to help them out," he said.

The group's anti-anti-piracy client also saw an OSX release this week. Powered by Agility Technology, White claimed it could "adapt to new web censorship techniques" - similar in spirit to MAFIAA Fire, a Firefox plug-in that works around ICE domain seizures.

"Having to write a client program like this is an admission that the open web is in the process of failing," said White. "TeamRDogs would rather spend its time in titty bars drinking whiskey and snorting lines than hacking the MAFIAA's Client of Doom, but they've made it necessary."

White's jocular, off-the-wall appraisal stands in stark contrast to the controversial reality of the situation. Newzbin2 is a site essentially built on stolen code - code he openly admitted to lifting from the original Newzbin following its court-ordered closure last year. And while Newzbin2 has (so far) avoided the same fate, the court ruling against it doesn't bode well.

The MPA sought to have the site deemed inaccessible as a last resort, and it succeeded. However, it's no stretch to say the organization would still love to see Newzbin2 gone for good. For now, Mr. White and company aren't backing down. (via TorrentFreak)
