Panasonic launches Z1 plasma TV

Enthusiast site HD Guru has leaked the price of Panasonic's 1-inch thick plasma TV, the sleek 54-inch TC-P54Z1 television.

Although the Z1 has impressive features and specifications, its unconfirmed $5,999.95 retail price tag means only a small number of shoppers will be able to afford the snazzy TV.

The 1080p plasma TV also has a 40,000:1 contrast ratio, 24Hz Cinematic Playback, Viera Link support for TV viewing over the Internet, and a 600Hz sub-field drive able to improve high-definition motion tracking.  The screens have audio, video, HDMI digital audio, component, and digital tuner multi-function slots.

Owners have the option to mount the screen either horizontally or vertically, and companies can arrange up to 25 displays together if they so wish.

Since the global economy is now struggling -- and more customers are cutting back on spending -- it seems the TV market will see a higher demand for low-cost HDTVs, not overly expensive sets like the Z1.  It should be interesting to see if consumers are willing to spend $6,000 on a TV when the economy is suffering.

For people on a budget who seek high-quality, the 54-inch TC-P5410 plasma TV is 2-inches thick and costs $2,699.
