PNY Slashes Prices for its USB-C External SSD

American company PNY Technologies recently dropped prices for its USB Type-C Pro Elite portable solid state drive (SSD), reported NotebookCheck. It is currently available for $64.99, $79.99, and $129.99 on its official Amazon store.

The price cuts come after a few years from its release date. Originally, the drives cost $65, $95, and $150 for the 250-gigabyte, 500-gigabyte, and 1-terabyte models.

The SSD offers tremendous speeds in such a small package. It has dimensions of 5.25 by 4 by 1.25 inches and weighs only 1.28 ounces or 36 grams. It is equipped with USB 3.1 Generation 2 USB-C, which supports up to 10 gigabytes per second transfer rates.

According to PNY, the USB 3.1 Gen 2 feature offers, “blazing fast speeds” and “is backward compatible with USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 host devices.”

Upon testing, NotebookCheck confirmed that the drive can provide more or less the same speeds as advertised, as the device maintained read and write speeds more than 800 megabytes per second.

Given these, the drive can reach read speeds of 890 megabytes per second and write speeds of 880 megabytes per second. It can be connected to computers using USB-C to USB-C cables, and USB-A to USB-C cables, both types come in the package upon purchase.

PNY, which manufactures card chargers and AI supercomputers, described Pro Elite SSD as “the next generation in mobile storage, boasting not only increased storage capacity but also exceptional performance.”

The solid state drive also comes with Acronis True Image Data Protection Software, which is designed to help users back up their data easily and quickly.

PNY has been launching a range of computer components throughout the years. One of its latest releases is the XLR8 Gaming Epic-X RGB DD4 RAM sticks, which are designed for building gaming computers

It has also announced its line of NVIDIA graphics processing units, namely NVIDIA A40 PCIe and NVIDIA A100 PCIe GPUs.

Aside from the Pro Elite USB C 3.1 Gen 2 Portable SSD, PNY also has the Elie USB 3.1 Gen 1 Portable SSD, which offers up to 430 megabytes and 400 megabytes per second read and write speeds, respectively. It also comes with Acronis True Data Protection Software.

Consumers can purchase PNY products from the official PNY website, as well as via retail partners including Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Office Depot, Dollar General, and Target.
