Redbox launches 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray movie rentals for $2.50 a night

American DVD, Blu-ray and video rental company Redbox has launched 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray rentals. For now the UHD BD movies are only available on select locations and can't be reserved online. Users in the launch locations pay $2.50 a night.

Redbox is launching the 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray rentals in six markets first. Consumers in Los Angeles, Miami, Seattle, Austin, Detroit and New York City can pickup the movies in more than 2,500 kiosks and return them to any Redbox location. Movies available at launch include Black Panther, The Commuter, The Matrix and The Martian.

More movies are added every week, with different availability per kiosk and location.  Expected the coming time are the movies Red Sparrow, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Tomb Raider 2017 and Inception.

The price of $2.50 a night is slightly more than the $1.75 for regular DVDs and $2 for Blu-ray discs.

Recently, Redbox also rolled-out Nintendo Switch video game rentals in San Antonio, Portland, Seattle, Nashville, Salt Lake City and Denver.
