At Cebit, Synology has showcased three new NAS devices powered by a System on a Chip (SoC) of the company Annapurna. The DS215+ and DS715+ are both NAS systems for two disks. Synology also showcased the DS1515 that can fit 5 disks and offers 4 ethernet ports.
The DS215+ has a dual-core 1.4Ghz SoC from Annapurna, an Israeli chip manufacturer that has been acquired by Amazon in January this year. The DS215+ has 1GB RAM and 2x gigabit-ethernet ports.
Besides this device, Synology also demonstrated the DS715+, a NAS that runs on a quad-core version of the same Annapurna SoC and has 2GB RAM. The capacity of the regular 2 disks of the device can be expanded with another 5 disks with an extension unit.
Synology also showed the DS1515 at Cebit. This NAS can hold 5 disks and is also powered by the quad-core Annapurna SoC running at 1.4Ghz. It has 4 gigabit-ethernet ports that are specified to be able to achieve a throughput of up to 404MB/s for reading and 422MB/s for writing. It also has 2x USB3.0 ports and 2x eSATA ports allow connecting up to 15 extra drive bays.
The three NAS devices will become available later this year, Synology has not disclosed any pricing information. Synology also demonstrated its first router at Cebit.
