Maxell has kindly sent us their new 2GB USB Mediadrive for review. The Mediadrive is a stylish and lightweight USB stick with a handy key fob. 

In this review we will test the performance of the Mediadrive 2GB USB flash drive.

What’s inside the box


Now it’s time to take a look at the drive itself and what the drive came shipped with.

The drive itself is a near-transparent blue, with the Maxell logo on it in white, so we can say that it has a very stylish design. The Mediadrive is protected with a cap which you can attach to a keyring or similar, making it easy to transport from place to place. This unit comes without any additional components, such as USB cable and strap.

Included Software


The Maxell Mediadrive includes an encryption and compression application called Secret Zip, which runs from the Mediadrive itself, so there is no need to install any software.

We added 4 bitmap images to our test file; we then added a password to protect the content.

In the screenshot above we can see the decryption dialog. After entering our password, our images were decrypted and unzipped to the Mediadrive without error. The fact that the software will run directly from the Mediadrive itself, with no installation required, was very handy.
