96/24 DTS featured on first major DVD-Video title

Currently the audio market is changing. While for many years the CD has dominated the market with it's good sound quality, now the manufacturers of audio equipment are telling us, it can even sound better. New technologies like DVD-Audio and the SuperAudioCD (SACD) popup and should seduce consumers to buy new equipment and discs.

These technologies aim to add more life to the sound, by e.g increasing the number of used bits the sound gets an extended dynamic range, while higher sampling rates allow wider frequency response. Besides that all new audio formats support multiple speakers instead of the two used with stereo sound. One technology that is fighting against the well known Dolby Technology is DTS and their latest technology is now featured on a major DVD title released UK rockband Queen:

Developed by Queen Productions, Ltd. and EMI, "Queen's Greatest Video Hits 1" features 16 of the band's most celebrated videos including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody to Love" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love." The title is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on October 7th and in the United States on October 14th.

The availability of DTS 96/24 on DVD-Video discs brings the highest quality sound to a wide consumer base: owners of DVD-Video players. There are currently 60 million DVD-Video players worldwide that can play a DTS 5.1-channel soundtrack. The newest generation of DVD players and A/V receivers can decode a high resolution 96/24 soundtrack in addition to the core 5.1 channels. Previously, this level of audio resolution was typically offered only through DVD-Audio discs.
