Ahead uses DEAMON Tools technology...

SwENSkE one of the two guys behind DEAMON Tools replied on a newsposting about Nero 5.5:

Guess who made the virtual CDROM Nero 5.5 comes with

This seems quite cool. Ahead, a big player on the CD-R software market seems to keep an eye on other smaller players on the market.
I mailed him for some details:

How did Ahead contact you ?

> By eMail

Do you work for them now ?

> Nope, we are and stay free 😉 - and there will always be a free DAEMON Tools (if you wanted to know that !

Ahead just licensed a (non-exclusive modified version of DAEMON Tools' virtual PHANTOM CDROM. Of course we'll give support to Ahead if necessary.

What were the reasons they wanted your software to come with their package.

> Because they like our software and think it's a good addition to their current software. Something like an 'additional argument' for people to buy Nero.

What will be the features of the software you supplied them, will it be the same as deamon tools or will it lack some features or has it even more?
> You cannot compare it to DAEMON Tools as it's only a small part of D-Tools. Imagedrive is a virtual CDROM drive based on DAEMON Tools' virtual PHANTOM CDROM drive. It supports only one virtual drive which mounts all Nero images
ONLY. All other features of DAEMON Tools are not included. The interface controlling the drive was done by Ahead, everything else was done by us.

He also told me that VeNoM386 (the programmer) is working on DT2.60 which should be out on saturday.
