Author of DVD-Shrink to discontinue its development

Ian Newson used our news submit to tell us that the author of the popular free DVD backup software DVD Shrink will discontinue development or the addition of new features after the current version 3.1 .  The author does intend however to continue fixing any reported bugs and issues as well as translation work to release DVD Shrink in different languages.

Ian Newson wrote:  A sad day but totaly understandable 🙁

Notice from the author:

After this current version of DVD Shrink - version 3.1 - I will not continue further development. There will be no new features.

There will of course be bug fixes! I intend to release updated versions of DVD Shrink 3.1.x as soon as a fix becomes available. I will continue to monitor reports in the forum and fix bugs as best I can, so if you are having problems, please continue to report them.

There will also be translation work, with translations either compiled as a separate release for a specific language, or in a combined multi-lingual version.

I also intend to write help files for the current version, if and when I have time.

I want to thank everyone in the forums who contributed valuable testing, advice, suggestions and bug reports. I received a tremendous amount of positive feedback, and it has made working on DVD Shrink a lot of fun.

Thanks!

DVD Shrink is what I recogn to be one of the best free DVD backup software packages I know of and seems sad to see the author discontinue development of its excellent DVD backup software.  I have used it on a few occasions to transfer and re-encode a dual-layer video DVD onto a standard recordable DVD and the resulting quality in every case to my eyes was indistinguishable from the original when I played it back on my 28" TV.

Discuss and read about DVD Shrink and other DVD backup software on our Transcoding Software Forum.  A guide of how to use DVD-Shrink can be accessed
