Blockbuster rewards 2nd born of the year with DVD gift basket

Blockbuster is kicking off it's "no more late fees" campaign with
a prize basket of goodies for the parents whose kids were the
second born of the year. The movie rental and entertainment giant is honoring
the slightly tardy bambinos in every state in the US with a spotlight
normally reserved for the first born.

The
6-pound-7-ounce son of Sudbury residents Ross and Jenny Freedman was born
at 8:21 a.m. at Newton-Wellesley Hospital -- the area's second New Year's
baby born. While the first baby born on New Year's Day usually
receives the pomp and circumstance, Ty got his shot in the spotlight
yesterday thanks to Blockbuster.

To kick off its "no more late
fees" campaign, the home entertainment retailer honored the second baby
born in hospitals all over the nation.  "It's OK to be a little
late," said Julie Dennehy, spokeswoman for Blockbuster New
England.  Starting yesterday, Blockbuster customers will no
longer be charged late fees on movie or game rentals.

"It is a response to a
competitive environment, and a nice reward for customers for the New
Year," Dennehy said. Dennehy presented the Freedmans with a
Blockbuster gift package complete with a DVD player, a 52-week Blockbuster
rental card, family movies, booties and movie snacks -- all piled into a
Radio Flyer red wagon. "There are a lot of happy second babies,"
Dennehy said.

Ross and Jenny found out about their son's
special designation a few hours after his birth. "At first they were
rooting for us to be the first baby born," said Ross, decked out in a
bright yellow "End of late fees"
T-shirt.

You have to hand it to the
Blockbuster marketing department for making this tie in. It's all over the media and creating quite a
stir.
