Digitimes reports that Taiwanese CD-R manufactures are currently changing their production lines to start the manufacturing of 48x and 52x CD-Rs. If the manufacturers of CD-R's are starting to increase their 52x production this should logically also mean there should be more 52x writers, so we should see more of those I guess
After starting 48x volume production in the summer, major disc makers Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technology said 48x discs will comprise nearly all of their CD-R shipments in the fourth quarter. |
CMC and Prodisc also indicated aggressive plans to convert production lines to make 52x discs.
Some small and medium-sized manufacturers have just entered volume production for 48x discs, but yield rates remain a major issue.
Additionally we heard that currently big companies like Ritek make USD 0.02 losses on every 80 min CD-R they sell because of a huge price war with other manufacturers like e.g Moser Baier, now they make their profits on other discs, like DVD media.
