Convert your HP8250 to a HP93xx CDR-W drive!

CDR-Info posted an article on how to convert your HP8250 to a HP93xx CD-Writer. Why would you want to do that? Well maybe because the latter supports 10X writing, while the first only supports 4X!

HP8250 is based upon Sony CRX120E/C. There is a good chance that this also works in Sony CRX120E/C CDR-W drives...

"...HP 8250i can do more then 8x. I used Sony's Updcrx21.exe (dos) to upgrade my 8250i (4/4/24) to 9300-series (10x4x32) and it works GREAT!!! This is the way to do it:

Download the Hewlett Packard 9310-firmware

Download the Sony dos-flasher. (the 1.0n firmware)

Run the HP 9310 firmware installationprogram. Only make the install, do not try to flash with the original HP flash program. Unzip the Sony firmware into a easy find directory ex: C:FLASH

Copy the 9300_10c.bin-file from CROGRAMCD-WRITER PLUSHP FIRMWARE UPDATE to the C:FLASH-directory. Now it's time to flash. Boot from a disk, WITHOUT any cd-support or drivers. Go to the flash-directory.

Run the program like this:

Updcrx21 9300_10c.bin /AT /M (Change the /M to /S if your cdr is "Slave")

Burn baby burn even faster. If you own a 9100, I bet you can do this to!!! I believe that the drive can do 12x8x32, but I can't find any fimrware to the 9500-series..."

Please note that this is done at your own risk!. Please post your experiences below.
