Cream founder and Lyceum Group announce creamselector

And now for something completely different...Cream founder James Barton and Rob Gutmann of the Lyceum Group, today unveiled creamselector. Basically a bar environment where you can compile your own CDs in the "comfortable, hip surroundings" of a babycream bar. Unlike using a website to create your masterpiece, babycream, creamselector will be the first ever bar to offer 'takeaway tunes'. Labels such as EMI, Universal, Warner and BMG, alongside recognised independents XL/Beggar's Banquet, Ninja Tune and Warp are endorsing creamselector and all have agreed to let you combine music shopping with leisure.

Mark Bennett, Commercial Manager at Warner Music, says of creamselector: "Warner Music sees the combination of the babycream brand and VMS technology as an exciting and positive step for music retailing, and one we are very happy to be involved with."

James Barton comments: 'Cream has always been at the forefront of new music, and once established, creamselector will deliver the hottest new talent alongside established artists, allowing us to champion the best in the arena. Drawing on Cream's heritage, we aim to focus on the most credible and interesting new releases and classic records.''

Reacting to the sophisticated needs of the modern music shopper, babycream will feature a system previously only available in a retail environment. creamselector is tailored to the savvy connoisseur, and allows drinkers to choose and create their own bespoke compilation albums from a range of over 2000 titles. Genres including dance, pop, electronic, and rock, to reflect the increasingly mixed music boxes of today's DJs and music lovers. creamselector will also offer an initial choice of four sleeve designs and a personalised title.

Downloaded via touch screens at stand alone units or from the comfort of babycream's banquette seating, the unique relaxed environment will allow shoppers to browse for hours, dip in and out between drinking, or just pop in and grab that exclusive remix '“ a revolution in the way we buy music.

A novel idea that would be fun to try if you are in or around Liverpool. CDs will take three minutes to download and sleeve to manufacturer's standard. Babycream visitors can create personal compilations of the very latest white labels, new releases and club classics from babycream recommended artists, singles and albums. Not to mention imbibing in a cocktail or two or three with some friends perhaps while sharing a few Hors d'oeuvres.

I sure would like to do some research for you but I am too far away!

Oh, if you get a chance to try it for yourself and you happen to see a guy in the corner of the bar wearing a ten gallon hat. Say "Thanks for the news GristyMcFisty!" as he is the one responsible for this submittal. 😉
