DVD media still dominating market over HD-DVD and Blu-ray

Because of the war between the two rival formats, Blu-ray and HD-DVD, the market of next generation optical devices is divided and growth previsions are difficult to tell until a winner will emerge.

Even if consumer demand for richer digital media continues to expand, the uncertainty about who will win the war makes end-consumers still prefer to rely on a less confused standard, i.e. DVD.

According to an article published by digitalmediastocks, most agree that content availability is critical to the success of the new formats: the more titles are made available in high definition, the faster the demand will rise for next generation discs, players and recorders.

Even if certainly a larger availability of titles will increase end-consumers curiosity, I think that the main obstacle to a large spreading of Hi Definition content is still the war format: people don't want another Betamax vs VHS.

Increasing titles availability is a good start, but only if people are not forced to face again two rival formats. So, until universal players are first made available to the market, upscaling DVD players are the best way to enjoy a movie on large screens.
