Developments on the DVD market...

During an official press-release of Pioneer, about the current status of the DVD-Recording market, several new things were told:

- The DVR-S201 price will be lowered from 17.000$ to 5400$
Pioneer also confirmed that the price of this drive will be lowered even more in the future. This drive is a second generation DVD-Writer (4,7 GB = the same as DVD-5)

- Pioneer also told that they will try to get a common compatibilty (no universal) for DVD-RW. This means that the media will be playable by most drives, without modifications on existing drives...

- DVD-R discs will be split in 2 formats:
* Authoring use: Premastering etc..
* Common use: Video applications etc..

- The current predictions tell us that at the end of 2001 there will be DVD-R recorders on the market for about 1000$ and rewritable media will cost about 20$ to 25$. Recordable media will cost about 10$..
