EQD promises lower cost HDTVs

Newcomer EQD aims to not only lower the cost of high-definition TVs by up to 20 percent, but also plans to create HDTVs that are able to be used as computer monitors or commercial signage for shopping malls and restaurants.

The company is currently promoting its Auria line of TVs, which ranges from 16-inch TVs all the way up to 47-inch models, with models supporting either 720p or 1080p resolutions.  Other TV sizes include 22, 24, 26, 32, and 37 inches, with the 22- and 24-inch models -- and the 42-inch model -- supporting 1080p resolutions.

"As tough economic times are changing the HDTV landscape, and with the federally mandated switch to digital TV signals, EQD has entered the marketplace in a unique position that will allow us to provide high-quality, high-value Multiple Function Monitors (MFM) as HDTVs and PC displays at the lowest possible price," EQD CEO Steve Woo said in a statement.  "This business model will not only help us meet the needs of today's consumers and businesses, but it will also allow us to give back to the community."

EQD hasn't  released pricing on its Auria line, but promises they'll be "as low as 20 percent less than its closest competitor."  TVs should be available starting in March or April of this year.

There are several different TV manufacturers, including Olevia and Vizio, working to drive down the price of HDTVs during a turbulent global economy.  The quality of these lower-cost manufacturers has increased enough to give Samsung, Sony and other major competitors a real problem, especially over the past three or four quarters.
