Guitar Hero may get reality TV series, go on tour

Activision could take its popular 'Guitar Hero' video game franchise and either turn it into a reality TV show or a concert tour, trying to branch away from just video games.

The brand "might make for a good TV show or good concert tour," according to Activision CEO Bobby Kotick.

Due to the popularity of the game, it's possible it'd make a good reality TV show aimed at all audiences, not one specific age group.

Before the game makes a reality TV debut or goes on tour, there are several new game titles gamers get to look forward to.  DJ Hero, Band Hero, Guiltar Hero: Smash Hits and Guitar Hero: Van Halen are all in the works from Activision.

The video game has been extremely popular, and although many industries have suffered greatly due to the economy, the video game sector has shown solid sales figures.  It's possible, if done correctly, Activision could make money even with consumers more likely to save money and avoid unnecessary costs.

In addition to Guitar Hero, Activision has possible movie projects for World of Warcraft and Call of Duty, with Legendary Pictures owning the rights to a WoW movie.  WoW has an large, avid fan base, so it could be possible to make a real blockbuster movie based on WoW gamers only.

I'm very interested to see how much money Activision can make when it takes a game title and tries to transition it towards TV and a possible rock tour.  It's not uncommon for video games turned into movies to be complete flops -- but WoW will be animated -- and it's unknown what the plot of the reality TV show will be.  Activision will likely work very closely with partners to make sure it's not a combination of wasted time and resources promoting a show that has poor ratings.
