I just added an article about Cdrdao, a utility that should enable you to backup SafeDisc 2 protected CD's, because it's able to write in RAW DAO mode, but only if your hardware supports it. Because it came out of the blue, I contacted one of their developers to find out more about the guys behind this software.
I also asked him if Cdrdao was still under development:

No, I'm currently working on the 1.1.5 release which should come next weekend. This release mainly addresses a serious CD-TEXT writing bug but it has no major new features.
