Judge says Napster might have to be shutdown...

NapNews Watch used our newssubmit to tell us that Napster may have to shut down completely. Although Napster already is blocking about 1.7 million songs there's still a lot to be downloaded from it. Before any final judgement is made, mr. A.J. Nichols, a court-appointed technical expert will be helping with his technical advise.

Napster claims that it has blocked more than 1.7 million files from its service and substantially improved its filtering technology, but critics charge that much copyrighted material remains on the site under slightly altered file names

The RIAA, however, has demanded that Napster adopt a different filtering method, either by incorporating digital fingerprinting to permanently mark copyrighted works or by simply reversing its filter to block the inward delivery of non-approved files onto the Napster system

I think this is getting more and more pathetic... Ok, let them shutdown Napster, Imesh and the other ones. Even worse: let them shut down all client-server based file exchange services.. we still got the peer-to-peer services like Gnutella. Nothing to be done about those...

Anyway, I think this whole case is getting more and more stupid every day...
