Kiss Technology DP-600 held in warehouses waiting on a fix

Lord KiRon used our news submit to tell us:"Finally Cisco and the industry is starting to understand what users are saying for last 2 years: "KiSS produces overpriced and over hyped crap". While being the pioneer in MPEG4 area. KiSS over few last years. failed to deliver in almost every area. Buggy software, constantly shifting deadlines, poor support, poor assembly quality, refusal to listen to users demands. First, it started with their DP-558 HDD recorder, some basic problems in it's operation not fixed now after two years!!! And now it looks like their new player, the DP-600 that was "late" for about 1.5-2 years from the initial announced release, suffers the same problems."

Joe Salamanca Product Manager for Kiss at Australian distributor Qualifi said "We still do not have a solution. The Kiss player was shipped to Australia and we do have software problems. As a result of this we are not shipping units to customers".

He added "Every day for several weeks we have been chasing Kiss for a solution but nothing has been delivered so far to fix the problem. We do not know when this problem will be fixed".

Two weeks ago a senior executive of Linksys the Cisco Company that manages Kiss said "As far as I am told the problem is fixed and a solution is being shipped".

"This is not the case" said Joe Salamanca of Qualifi. "We are still waiting".

A key executive at Cisco in the USA said among several things "We have our problems at Kiss; commitments were made by the original owners of Kiss Technology which were not achievable. We now believe that a lot of product hyping went on to get a sale and we are now having to review product road maps and the delivery of product to market".

For those that would like to read the rest of the article, you can find it at Smarthouse. In case you would like to read more information from the Kiss web page, concerning the DP-600 and DP-608 networked DVD media servers, it can be found here. According to the information found there, this thing is loaded with features, so it is easy to believe it would have some bugs in it. Too bad, as the device looks most interesting indeed! Let's hope that somehow, they can get these problems put behind them.
