LaCie d2 external USB FireWire Blu-ray Burner

jpblier@adelphia. used our news submit to tell us: "Now just add
DVD-RAM and Mt. Ranier support and we have a SuperDrive...the best burner on
Earth!"

Hmm, what about HD-DVD compatibility? 😉

The d2
Blu-ray Drive from LaCie is an external Blu-ray disc burner that can also
burn and read DVD and CD discs. It connects to your computer via either
the FireWire-400 or USB 2.0 interface. The drive allows you to write data
to single- and dual-layer Blu-ray discs, which can hold up to 50 GB of
data; more than 10 times that of a standard DVD-R. These high-capacity
discs are ideal for data archiving, backup and HD video
delivery.

Key Features

'¢ Professional HD Video Recording

The drive has been designed to facilitate professional HD
video recording. A 50 GB Blu-ray disc can store approximately 4 hours of
HD video, making it an ideal solution for video archiving or as a
delivery mechanism to transfer a project to a mastering facility. Video
can be compressed using MPEG-2, AVC or VC-1 codecs, allowing you to
share HD video with your customers in stunning quality.

'¢
Multimedia Features
Blu-ray delivers up to 8 channels of audio
at 192 kHz/32 streams quality. This gives you high-quality audio to
match the video quality that Blu-ray can deliver.

'¢ Data
Archiving and Backup
Blu-ray allows you to archive large
amounts of data in an attractive cost per GB rate. Making backups of
your computer on Blu-ray is also time saving on Blu-ray in comparison to
DVD; you won't be constantly swapping out discs to create backups of
your system. The discs feature a scratch-resistant coating on the
surface to help protect data integrity for years to come.

'¢ Dual Interface
The drive can be connected to a
computer via FireWire-400 or USB 2.0. This allows you to add Blu-ray
burning to almost any modern computer.

'¢ Backwards
Compatibility
The drive not only reads and writes single- and
dual-layer Blu-ray media, but it is also fully compatible with DVD and
CD media. The drive reads and writes CD-R/RW discs and single- and dual-
layer DVD-/+R/RW discs as well.

'¢ Software Bundle

The burner is bundled with Easy Media Creator 8.2 and
CinePlayer 3.4 for Windows for disc burning and DVD video playback.
Toast 7.1.1 Titanium is included for OS X, giving Mac users the ability
to burn Blu-ray discs.

Oddly, ALL the drives over at LaCie are called
d2 and a search for d2 Blu-ray yields no results. Approximate availability
over at the BH PhotoVideo site is November. The price listed
there is to be announced.
