Let's talk about SATA optical devices

People who recently bought a SATA optical drive already know that these drives have serious compatibility problems with many mainboards. The main problem is that SATA controllers do not support ATAPI, and seems that SATA controller's manufacturers don't want to waste time (or money) to correct this issue.

According an article published by APC, it seems that Windows Vista will increase the uptake of SATA optical drives, but no reason was provided as to why Vista will have this effect over any other supported operating system, such as Windows XP.

Could it be only a marketing strategy?
