LightScribe launches a public Linux SDK Toolkit

LightScribe has officially released a set of Linux development tools for its Direct Disc Labelling technology, which allows Linux developers to add LightScribe capabilities to their software using the public software development kit.  The LightScribe SDK kits have been made available for free in the .rpm file format on the LightScribe website.  These kits have been validated for use on SuSE 9.1, 9.2, 9.3 and 10.0, but should be able to run on any x86-based Linux distribution that uses Linux kernel 2.6.

According to LightScribe, they claim to be the largest company for embedded disc labelling and its technology has already been licensed out to over 70 different companies, including optical drive and media manufactures, software developers and various other media and computer brands around the world.  So far, LaCie is the first LightScribe licensee to offer LightScribe software for the Linux Market.

The public LightScribe Linux SDK can be obtained here on LightScribe's official website.  Thanks to John D'Avolio for letting us know about this news.
