Lite-On IT receives DVD-ROM loader orders for Xbox 360

Lite-On is on a roll! They of course acquired
BenQ's optical disc drive unit recently and now are in the position to
produce Blu-ray drives, as they inherited critical Blu-ray tech agreements in
that deal.  But now, thanks to DigiTimes, we learn that Lite-On has also landed Xbox 360
loader orders with the takeover.
Lite-On IT expects volume shipments to start in the third quarter
according to company representitives. BenQ had reportedly obtained the
orders in January via its joint-venture with Philips, Philips BenQ Digital
Storage (PBDS). Prior to these secured orders from Microsoft, only
Hitachi LG Data Storage produced the DVD-ROM drive modules for Xbox 360
consoles.

This is a good deal for Lite-On, as the Xbox 360 is
in a perfect position at the moment in the console game market and this
should bring Lite-On some nice production volume. Couple this with the
continuing delays of the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360 can be sold to
more and more customers in the meantime.
