Macrovision seems to target crackers more then duplicators in latest Safedisc release

According to a
source close to some reverse engineers is Macrovision currently making
more efforts to protect games against cracking instead of preventing users from
making safety backups. The company has improved the internals of the protection
system and added a virtual machine to
execute user protected code blocks. A virtual machine can be considered
sophisticated internal code emulation to hamper or restrict reverse
engineering attempts.

Our source could also tell us that it seems
that Electronic Arts is building up custom protections of their own around
the Macrovision protections that is similair to the Fade protection, a
protection that makes strange things happen in games when it detects it's
running from a pirated copy.
