Napster came back on napcameback.com

I saw a reaction on the napster press release by RDJ134 about napcameback.com, so I decided to check it out...

On their site:

Why do I need NapCameBack?

As of Sunday March 4, 2001, at midnight, Napster began monitoring the file names that its users put into the Napster database, for the purpose of blocking certain file names.

In essence, this means that popular music will no longer be available for exchange between Napster users. By disguising your files, you and other users using NapCameBack will be able to continue exchanging your files without interference. Napster filtering also represents an invasion of privacy. NapCameBack allows you to protect your files from such transgressions.

What does the NapCameBack software do?

The NapCameBack software is a simple, yet elegant solution to file filtering. It takes each of the file names of the mp3 files in your Napster directory and renames the file names so that your files cannot be easily monitored. Currently this process involves taking the last letter of each word and moving it to the front, kind of like pig latin.

NapCameBack can also convert your files back to their standard names, for easier play in WinAmp and other MP3 players.

How do I use Napster after I run the NapCameBack software?

You can use Napster just as you always have. However, if you cannot find the file you are looking for using a standard search string (Eg Metallica) you can enter the string into the NapCameBack software interface and receive an encrypted version of the file name to search Napster with. That encrypted version will allow you to trade files with all other NapCameBack/Napster users, just as you always have. The current method takes the first letter off of each word and puts it at the end of that word.

Some examples:

Madonna = adonnam

Metallica = etallicam

Ricky Martin = ickyr artinm

Ok this sound nice ofcourse, to still use napster after they blocked several files. However I personally don't like this shit. Why? Because you need to rename all your mp3 files... I like my PC nice and clean and not with all kinds of encrypted file names.

I just checked napster and I can still search madonna and metallica (i even downloaded Like A virgin 5 mins ago). Am i the only one ?

But I haven't checked to program itself. I tryed to download it twice from their site but I guess it's very popular since I get 1 bytes/s...

If u want to give it a try be my guest, and let us know!!
