New components for holographic recording

A new liquid-crystal-light valve for use in generating the optical patterns for holographic-data recording was announced by Displaytech.

The SLM (spatial-light modulator), a 1216×1216-pixel array of liquid-crystal cells, modulates polarized light from a blue laser to create the data beam for optical recording in a holographic medium.

Ok, it's a bit technical stuff, but it seems that holographic optical technologies can be a valid alternative to traditional optical devices, with larger storage capacity and better reliability.

Whoever is interested, can read more detailed information at EDN and at Displaytech.
