New upscaling DVD player by OPPO

Until the war between Blu-ray and HD-DVD formats sees a winner, the better solution to get High Definition content on the large screen at a reasonable price is an upscaling player.

Digital Trends published today about the new standalone player OPPO DV-981HD that at "only" $229 (or about €172) allows High definition up-conversion with film-like picture quality to up-convert 720x480 interlaced video encoded on DVD discs to 480p/720p/1080i and 1080p.

This drive features also both PAL and NTSC playback capability, it can play DivX AVIs and XviD and .SRT, .SMI, .IDX and .SUB format, but no Component Video (YPbPr/YCbCr) on the DV-981HD model. This model is designed for use with a display device with HDMI or DVI digital video input.
