Nintendo revises Wii in attempt to block modchips

As pretty much expected, Nintendo has been working on a way of blocking the use of modchips in its latest console revision, going by this DigiTimes report.  While some may have expected Nintendo to release a firmware update to counter the use of modchips in current consoles, instead, they have altered the circuit board layout in an aim to make the modification of their revised Wii console more difficult to perform than the Wii consoles currently on the market.  Users who attempt to install the modchip in their latest Wii revision will most likely damage the system.

Once the new consoles become available, some sources indicate that a more advanced modchip to take on the new revision would become available in under a month, however, if Nintendo's revision adopts BGA IC packaging, this would most likely push the modchip development time to at least four months.  The consoles using the new circuit board layout will likely be put on the market in under a month.
