Nokia introduces new touchscreen music phone

Nokia has introduced the 5530 XpressMusic phone, a refresh of the company's 5800 music playing device, aimed specifically for younger phone owners.

The phone offers a more compact and sleeker phone compared to its predecessor, and also has a new contact feature on the phone so up to 20 contacts can be put into the contact bar.

The 5530 has a full 2.9-inch touchscreen display, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3.2-megapixel camera, EDGE connectivity, microSD card slot, 4GB internal memory, widescreen video playback at 640x360, and a stainless-steel finish to replace the cheaper plastic build.

It's also possible to use the phone and tie directly into MySpace and Facebook, which are the two most popular social networking web sites.

Sony Ericsson is best known for music phones, though companies such as Nokia and others also are seeing the importance of mobile phones designed specifically for music.  There are a number of new music phones being offered, but Nokia's offering is different because a time-limited license is given to each person who purchases an XpressMusic phone.

One the license expires, however, owners can purchase a new mobile phone depending on what they want to do.

The phone is scheduled to be released in the third quarter 2009 in Europe with an MSRP €199, with future North American launch plans unknown.
